The ski resort of La Tania, Courchevel.
La Tania officially opened as a designated ski resort in December 1990 for the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics. It was originally built to accommodate the ice hockey teams and journalists. La Tania has expanded enormously since then with more and more chalets being built each year. Its major accolade is that it's part of the world's largest ski area, Les Trois Vallées. It's nestled perfectly between the famous resorts of Meribel and Courchevel at a height of 1350m.
There's a real community feel to La Tania and those of you who have the pleasure of returning year after year will no doubt know many of us 'locals'. We like to refer to La Tania as a small family resort but there's an awful lot more to it than that. The aprés-ski is second to no other resort with live bands frequenting the many bars found in the centre of the village each and every day of the winter season!
The great thing about the centre of La Tania is that it's free of traffic and therefore perfect for children. There are ample ski hire shops together with a bakery, newsagent, supermarket and several restaurants. There's a real buzz about the town and the locals help maintain the excitement throughout the season as can be seen from the following video put together by www.latania.co.uk, the resort's favourite band Bring Your Sisters and the award winning Pub le Ski Lodge!
Skiing from La Tania.
La Tania lies within the linked ski area of the Courchevel valley which has 1,304 acres of mountain entirely dedicated to all types of winter sports. Ski down the 150 kilometres of downhill pistes, served by 62 chairlifts, to get the most out of your day’s skiing.
If you’re a beginner, the “ZEN” and fun zones are for you, with 27 green runs and 44 blue runs to get you skiing in perfect safety. For hardened skiers, 38 red runs and 10 black runs will test your technique and ability to the full! Whatever your level, choose your itinerary for some unforgettable days' skiing.
La Tania is linked to the largest linked ski area in the world: Les Trois Vallées or the Three Valleys as you'll often hear it called. There are 600 kilometres of prepared and maintained pistes to play on, more than you could ever imagine! The magnificent scenery stretches from the Mont Blanc massif in the north to the Les Ecrins massif in the south. After a few hours on your skis from La Tania you'll reach the summit of the the Trois Vallées massif, the Pointe de Thorens (3266 m) at Val Thorens.
There are now 3 runs down into the resort itself. The blue run of Folyères is a roller coaster through the forest in to the resort. Its 38 snow cannons and it's own snow making reservoir keeps the piste open from the start to the end of the season. There's a wide red run with a consistent gradient down to the bottom lift station. The addition of a new green run winding down through the forest from the top lift station in to the resort allows skiers of all abilities to get home safe and sound. There's even a free drag lift and a short run for absolute beginners in the heart of the resort.
If you're a non-skier then check out the Tourist Office in La Tania as they have loads of information about life away from the slopes. There's loads to do in the surrounding area including snow-shoe walks, paragliding, indoor climbing, ice skating, 10-pin bowling, ice karting and dog-sledding... the list goes on and on!
As both myself and sarah live in La Tania throughout the year there are very few questions that we'd struggle to answer. Drop us an email via our enquiry form and we'll do whatever we can to help make you're stay here in La Tania a very enjoyable one!
